Morning Toast Three Ways

Sometimes I find that it’s best to keep things simple. I’m a big time planner when it comes to food; I always try to plan out each meal ahead of time to make my life a little easier. Most of my Sunday mornings are spent at the kitchen table flipping through cookbook after cookbook to decide what I want to have on hand and eat over the course of the upcoming week. Based off of my decisions, I compile a list of ingredients to stock up on. In my mind this is a wonderful system, but my family seems to find it bizarre and unrealistic (I beg to differ). Meal planning is a great way to reduce food waste and to prevent that dreadful moment where you open your empty fridge with a rumbling stomach and a lack of ideas. Quick Brussels Sprout Slaw

There’s nothing I love more than a good brussels sprout recipe. Seriously though, brussels sprouts are so versatile; you can use them in salads and pastas, you can oats them, shred them, boil them. The possibilities are endless!  Continue reading “Quick Brussels Sprout Slaw”

Chocolate Chunk Banana Bread

After months upon months of stress an, seemingly, never ending work, I am finally free. Last Monday I went for my final university interview and am so relived! Being a senior in high school is hard enough, but when you add in extracurricular activities, work and applications it becomes exhausting. I may have my applications done, but I do still have three more months of school to get through.  Continue reading “Chocolate Chunk Banana Bread”

Buckwheat Banana Pancakes

These last few weeks have been a complete and total whirlwind! With two portfolios due, a mass of school assignments, extracurricular activities and a vacation thrown right in the middle, I’ve had almost no time to myself. Fortunately, it’s starting to wind down (thank God!).  Continue reading “Buckwheat Banana Pancakes”

Building the Perfect Smoothie

Smoothies are my go-to breakfast. They are so simple, quick, delicious and they can pack a pretty epic nutritional punch, which is ideal first thing in the morning. When I have an early morning practice I like to blend up a nice thick smoothie the night before, then all I have to do in the morning is pour it into a bowl and throw some toppings on it and voilà, breakfast!  Continue reading “Building the Perfect Smoothie”

Ginger Molasses Loaf

I am a huge fan of molasses. One of my favourite things at christmas time is baking (and eating!) chewy, delicious, homemade ginger molasses cookies. They produce the most wonderful scent when they’re baking, it just smells like christmas. This holiday season I Continue reading “Ginger Molasses Loaf”

DIY Nut Butter

If you know me, you know I have an array of odd food obsessions. Hummus, anything with sweet potatoes, sushi, watermelon, just to name a few. I also adore nut butter, especially almond based nut butters (I’m not a fan of peanut butter). Honestly, I could live off of nut butter. I am known to eat it straight out of the jar with a spoon, not even joking.  Continue reading “DIY Nut Butter”

Crispy Roasted Chickpeas

I am a big time snacker. When I get home after a long day my snack is basically a meal. I’m not kidding. That is why it is important for me to keep healthy snacks on hand so that I don’t binge out on chips or something just because they are readily available and require no work on my part to make .  Continue reading “Crispy Roasted Chickpeas”

Kale Caesar Salad

It’s that time of the year; exam season. I know that everyone combats stress differently, whether it be by meditating, eating, crying, or exercising. I personally tame the wild stress beast by baking. As I write this I actually have dough for monkey bread rising in the oven. I’ve been stu(dying) all day and am in major need of some baking therapy.  Continue reading “Kale Caesar Salad”

Smokey Baba Ganoush

While I was in Kingston visiting my sister a little while ago I was rummaging through the fridge looking for a snack (typical) and came across some baby carrots and a container of store-bought baba ganoush. As I was chowing down I noticed something a little different Continue reading “Smokey Baba Ganoush”
